    The Mages guild

If you are playing a shady character, then the Thieves Guild is where you will find work. The Thieves Guild is very active within Vvardenfell even though their activities might be considered illegal in the main. However they are respected primarily because of their honour, and due to the fact that they keep control of the more dangerous criminals, such as murderers or member of the Camonna Tong. The Thieves Guild also provides very useful services and often fulfils the need of rich men and major players. They operate in the shadows and can acquire rare items, such as books, artefacts or other.

Although they are present in every major town, the meeting point of members is often not known or publicly advertised. The guild tend to meet in clubs or places of trade, and the proprietors of these establishments allow for an ‘unofficial’ Thieves guild branch. You won’t know about them unless you are a member or are highly skilled at persuading people. Some known meeting points are in Balmora, Ald’Ruhn and Vivec.

The guild favours the Agility and Personality attributes, allowing for Stealth and the persuasion of people in general. The primary skills are Acrobatics, which can see you quickly escaping in case things get heated, Sneak, for pick-pocketing, and the Security skills which allows you to open doors and containers. Minor skills are Short Blade, although thieves prefer to pickpocket an item or escape from a situation rather than kill, and the Light Armor skill.

The Thieves guild don’t really have any allies, although many are known for using the services they provide. The faction which are openly favourable to their activities are the Mages and the Imperial Cult. Their enemies are the Camonna Tong, who would kill for petty reasons and do not show the honour of the Thieves guild.

The current guild leader is Gentleman Jim Stacey, the Master Thief. His location is secret and cannot be given out so easily; you will have to earn it by asking around or completing the easier quests first. Its believed that he hides somewhere near a bookshop. The thieves ranks are probably the most creative in the game and they are: Toad, Wet Ear, Footpad, Blackcap, Operative, Bandit, Captain, Ringleader, Mastermind and finally Master Thief.
