Playing the Vampire: Rewards
The vampire life is not all doom and gloom, however. You can reap considerable benefits, particularly in gathering unique items and quests. You also gain points in various Attributes and also receive some natural abilities specific to this race.
The major changes in your attributes occur in your Strength, Willpower and Speed which all gain a +20 point bonus. This means you are immune to some forms of magic and are faster when moving about. You also receive a bonus to skills related to stealth. A +30 bonus is received in: Athletics, Sneak, Acrobatics, Unarmored. The vampire is also more apt at casting spells from some specific schools of magic. You get bonuses in the school of Mysticism, which is your most important school since it includes spells which absorb energies, Illusion and Destruction schools.
The vampire fights better hand-to-hand considering his speed and agility. You therefore get assigned a +30 point bonus on hand-to-hand fighting. The vampire also becomes immune to ordinary weapons, known as the Resist Normal Weapon ability. This includes weapons which are made from common materials such as Steel or Iron weapons, as long as they are not enchanted or magic weapons built of those materials. This also includes steel or iron ammunition fired from a standard bow, not an enchanted bow. Fists damage a vampire normally, since they are not considered normal weapons. Lastly, this effect is very rare, only available to vampires and two other creatures in-game.
One unique item which is available to vampires is the sword Eltonbrand, which is quite complicated to obtain. You must first own the Goldbrand sword, obtained by completing the Boethiah Quest, in northwest of Hla Oad. This quest is only available to a normal character, not vampires. After you have obtained Goldbrand you can talk to the mage Sirilonwe in the Foreign Quarter in Ald’ruhn, who will give you the right quest. Upon completion, you will need exactly 11171 gold pieces in order for the item transformation to occur. The gold will not be spent, and Goldbrand will be transformed to Elderbrand.
The crucial spell available to the vampire is the Vampire Touch Spell. You can absorb 10 to 30 points of health on touch, and will never fail having a 100% success rate to vampires.
There are other bonuses regarding attributes which are available depending on which particular clan you belong to. These aspects will be discussed in the next parts of our guide.
