The sixth part of the series on skills, which will look at skills related to Intelligence.

    Alchemy

A magic skill, depending on Intelligence.

Most of the skills which relate to Intelligence are schools of magic, since magicka is proportionally related to how many Intelligence points you have in game. As such the Alchemy skill is also a magical skill, although it doesn’t strictly involve casting or the arcane specifically, but it is more a Druid skill which involves mixing potions to achieve the desired effects.

By gathering ingredients and possessing this skill to high levels, you can mix and brew very powerful potions which will aid you in most aspects of the game. This skill is considered important in the game, since the effect of potions stack (unlike games like Neverwinter Nights for instance) and brewing many potions can provide you with lasting ‘God-like’ effects. There will be a separate guide on potions, which will give more details on what you can create and how.

Luck also plays a part in creating successful potions.

    Conjuration

A magic skill, depending on Intelligence.

This school of the arcane allows you to summon creatures which will act as your loyal servants when you are in peril. Conjuration effects also include summoning weapons of power, such as flaming swords, or commanding creatures or greater undead.

    Enchant

A magic skill, depending on Intelligence.

This allows you to imbue otherwise mundane trinkets, such as lockets, necklaces, rings or stones, with otherworldly magic powers. Enchanting is a highly specialized art, and it requires a skilled enchanter to create a powerful item, together with an element of luck.

In order to enchant you need creatures souls. The more powerful the soul, the higher the value of the enchanted item and the better the spell contained. There are various gems to contain souls, such as petty gems for a small creature’s soul or grand gems for larger ones.

    Security

A stealth skill, depending on Intelligence.

The security skill is, oddly enough, exactly the opposite in Morrowind, or how to make things un-secure. In simple words, this lets you open locked doors, containers and similar with lock-picking tools. You can also disarm traps with probes. There are different types of tools and probes depending on your thievery skills, such as a master’s lockpick or an apprentice’s probe. A master’s lockpick can open a lock much more easily than an apprentice’s one.
