The fifth part of the series, looking at the dark-elves of Tamriel or the Dunmer.

    The Dunmer

Dunmer are based on the dark-elves of the realms, such as the drows in D&D campaigns for instance. They are typically dark skinned and although their name might be associated with their skin colour, it also indicates ‘Dark’ as star-crossed or doomed by fate. The Dunmer reside all over Tamriel, but are mainly known as the people of the Eastern Empire.

Typical physical characteristics are their bright red eyes, slim and nimble physique and their great agility and ability with the sword. They make good fighters and warriors, and can also use various forms of magic to aid them in battle. Since they live in the vicinity of the volcanic Red Mountain region, they have a high immunity to fire, making them resistant to weapons imbued with fire abilities or spells like fireballs.

Dunmer are not regarded highly by other Tamrielic races, since their primary traits are cruelty and ruthlessness. With good fighting and arcane skills they would provide considerable aid in battle siding with Empiric forces; however their vengeful nature, previous historical conflicts, and general untrustworthy reputation keeps them from gaining political status within the world.

    Attributes, Skill and Abilities

Dunmer favour Speed as their primary attribute. They also favour highly in most other attributes, such as Agility, Endurance and Strength all at 40 points at the start of character creation. They score low in Personality and Willpower.

Their main skills are Short blade and the magic school of destruction, each with 10+ modifiers. Other adequate skills include Athletics, Light Armor and the ability to wield a long blade, such as a great sword. All these have +5 points modifiers.

Special abilities: Ancestor Guardian – Sanctuary (50 points for 60 seconds on self). Resist Fire 75%.

    Playing the Dunmer

This race provides great variation in creating your character. Since it has no real considerable weaknesses, you can play the Dunmer as a warrior, archer or battlemage, and their fire immunity could reach epic proportions (virtually 100%) with potions, scrolls or enchanted items. The sanctuary ability also provides good armour bonuses in battle, making them apt warriors. Playing the scout is also a good idea, since this makes use of many of the skills and abilities associated with Dunmers.
