A look at birthsigns, their characteristics and abilities or spells gained.

  • slide 1 of 4

There are thirteen separate constellations in Tamriel, of which three are major constellations known as Guardians. The guardians are the Warrior, the Mage and the Thief. Each of these major constellations has three charges, or sub-signs, which they protect from the sign of the Serpent, which has no particular direction and usually threatens any of the other constellations, hence why the guardians exist.

Each particular sign offers an ability, which might be magical or natural, and when building your character you may want to consider how to reach the maximum capabilities of your character by assigning him the right birth sign.

    The Three Guardian Signs

The Warrior – A sign favouring fighters of all kinds, possessing great strength but also a short-fuse. The protected signs are The Lady, The Steed and The Lord. Characters under this birth sign acquire the ability to fortify their attack to a +10 modifier (Warwyrd).

The Mage – A sign favouring casters. The protected signs are The Apprentice, The Atronach and The Ritual. Characters under this birth sign gain 5 points to their magicka energy (Fay).

The Thief – Those born under this sign take great risks, but are not necessarily thieves. The protected signs are The Lover, The Shadow and The Tower. Characters under this birth sign gain 10 points to their Sanctuary ability, and are hence harder to hit by physical force (not magic).

    The Wondering Sign

The serpent – A sign which threatens all the others, who have guardian signs for this purpose. The serpent wanders aimlessly between the other constellations, although the motions can be predicted. There are no common characteristics shared between those born under this sign, which results in either greatest fortune or doom. Spells gained are Star Curse, which poisons on touch, and Damage 1 point of Health on self.

    The Protected Charges

The Lady – A sign which promotes empathy and kindness. Abilities gained are Lady’s Favour (+25 to Personality) and Lady’s grace (Fortify Endurance +25).

The Steed – Depicted by a horse, the Steed features great speed and ease of motion. Abilities gained are Charioteer (Fortify Speed +25)

The Lord – Born of great strength and constitution, they are however weak to fire (Ability gained is Fire Weakness or Trollkin) . Spells gained are Blood of the North (Restore +2 health points).

The Apprentice – Good for magic users but also vulnerable to magic themselves. Abilities are Elfborn (Fortify magicka 15+) and Weakness to magic effects by 50%.

The Atronach - One of the charges under the Mage, they are apt spellcasters with great magic reserves. Abilities are Wombburn, which gives Spell Absorption, +20 Fortify magicka and Stunted magicka.

The Ritual – A sign with many abilities, although primarily under the Mage primary. Spells gained are Blessed Word (Turn undead 100 points for 30 sec on target) and Blessed touch (same but on touch instead of target). The main ability is to restore your health by 100 points (Mara’s gift).

The lover – A passionate sign. Main ability is Mooncalf (Fortify Agility 25+), whilst the power gained is Lovers kiss (Paralyze 60 sec on target).

The Shadow – As the name implies, a good sign for thieves. Ability is Moonshadow (Invisibility for 60 sec).

The Tower – Under the thief’s protection, those under this sign make good thieves as apt at loot finding and opening tricky locks. Spells gained are Beggar’s Nose (Detect Animal/Key/Enchantement for 60 sec in 200ft range) whilst your power is Tower Key (open a 50 pts lock on touch).
